POTHOLES are becoming one of the biggest talking points at the moment with the current icy weather, causing chaos for motorists and Local Authorities nationwide. It was reported more than £63m was spent filling in around 970,000 potholes last year, with this years bill expected to be even higher.
Potholes are created when the ‘freeze thaw’ process happens. This is when water gets into cracks in the road surface, freezes and expands, causing the crack. More water gets in and freezes, causing the cracking to get steadily worse, imminently resulting in any motorist’s nightmare – a pothole.
